From 1965 through 1968, Carroll Shelby's crew transformed standard Ford Mustangs into the legendary GT-350 and GT-500. When production responsibility passed to Ford for 1969, the styling grew more aggressive than ever — but nearly 800 cars sat unsold at year's end. The solution was as ingenious as it was unusual: the leftover '69s were re-serialized under FBI supervision, fitted with bold black hood stripes and a chin spoiler, and released as 1970 models. Just 789 were converted, making the 1970 Shelby GT-500 one of the rarest and most storied American muscle cars ever built.
