The F-35B is the most technically complex variant of the Lightning II — a short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) stealth fighter that has to pack a lift fan, a swiveling engine nozzle, and a full suite of fifth-generation avionics into the same airframe as its conventional siblings.
